PROTECTA-METAL APPLICATION
SHEET
AREAS OF USE
Top protective coating
over properly-prepared metal roofs and sidewalls
Over metal tanks
As a protective
barrier over most metal surfaces
SURFACE PROTECTION
If surface is covered with rust or a previous coating that is scaling,
scrape or wire brush until a hard foundation is attained. Over heavily
rusted areas, use a rust inhibitor. On lightly rusted areas, use
a light coat of Protecta-Metal and allow to dry prior to applying
top coat. Power washing surface is recommended to ensure proper
cleaning and bonding of coating.
All surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of dust, dirt, and all
foreign matter. Tighten and/or replace loose fasteners or bolts.
All seams more than 1/16" wide and less than 1/8" wide must be sealed
with Protecta-Sealer. Openings and joints wider than 1/8" should
be covered with Protecta-Sealer or polyester fabric and sufficient
coating. For long-lasting protection, a polyester fabric should
be incorporated with the products. On asphaltic surfaces, coating
must be allowed to cure for one week before top coating to minimize
further bleed-through.
APPLICATION
Protecta-Metal is ready for use as it comes from the container.
Do not thin. In cool weather, material may thicken, requiring warming
by interior storage. DO NOT HEAT! Apply coating only to dry surfaces.
Protecta-Metal may be applied by spray, brush, or roller. For spray
application, use an 0.030-0.035 orifice. Applied most effectively
by air, gasoline, or electric-powered airless spray units such as
Graco Model 733 or Speedflo HydraM 4000. Equivalent equipment from
other manufacturers may also be used.
Clean up equipment with mineral spirits.
Apply when temperature is 40°F and rising. Wash-off resistance is
dependent on temperature . . . 3-4 hours at 70°F, 12 at 40°F. Do
not apply over moisture or frost.
COVERAGE RATES
Apply at a rate of 2 gallons per 100 square feet on metal surfaces.
Additional protection may be achieved by applying 3 gallons per
100 square feet.
